MONITEAU, PA – Showcasing their nearly-completed program rebuild, the Smethport football team created a new watermark, officially crowning themselves the District 9 Region 4 champions with a 40-15 win over Moniteau.

Following a handful of years searching for answers, the Hubbers have erupted out of the gates this year, averaging 44 points a game with their red-hot offense. Against the Warriors, it was no different as they outpaced their opponents for their third 25-plust-point win of the season.

Leaving hostile territory with their fourth win of the season, tying the program’s most wins in the past five years with still three more to play, the Hubbers officially earned the No. 1 seed in the Region 4 rankings, earning the first league title since 2021.

Closing out the year, Smethport will initially stay on the road for next week’s contest with Coudersport, before splitting their final two games with Kane at home and Cameron County on the road.

Falconer/CV/MG 18, Allegany-Limestone 12

ALLEGANY, NY – Despite building up an early lead, the Gators were unable to defend it, falling beneath 0.500 with a loss to the Golden Falcons.

Following a scoreless first quarter, A-L jumped onto the scoreboard with back-to-back touchdowns. However, Falconer countered, and from there they took control.

In the final two frames, the Golden Falcons rode out their momentum, scoring two unanswered touchdowns to put themselves in front by the fourth. A-L, on the other hand, had no response.

At 2-3, the Gators look to end their two-game losing streak with their Week 6 matchup against Salamanca. They will host the Warriors on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

Punxsutawney 29, Port Allegany 28

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Coming one two-point conversion short, the Gators were branded with their second loss of the season, narrowly falling to Punxsy.

Early on, Port and the Chucks traded blows back-and-forth. While Punxsy tacked on two immediate touchdowns, Kellen Veilleux settled the Gators’ sidelines with a retaliation in the final seconds of the first quarter, scoring on a 42-yard carry. Before the end of the half, Port took a slim lead off another short run from Veilleux, then seeing Isaac Postlewait tacked on two extra points for a 16-14 lead.

However, as they continued to battle, scoring tick-for-tack through the next two quarters, Port’s hopes of overtime rested on converting once again. After Veilleux brought the Gators to within one point on a 10-yard pass from Brennan Fillhart, they gambled for the win and ultimately came up short. Instead of glory, they left the field with a second defeat.

Veilleux ended with 125 rushing yards and 80 receiving yards, totaling three touchdowns while Fillhart finished with 168 passing yards on a 10-for-20 completion rate that saw a pair of scores. Postlewait came away with 68 receiving yards and a touchdown, alongside 41 rushing yards.

Redbank Valley 36, Bradford 0

NEW BETHLEHEM, PA – The Owls fell to 1-5 on the season with a blowout loss to the Bulldogs.

Bradford will stay on the road for their next contest, a Friday meeting with Brookville at 7 p.m.

Kane 16, Otto-Eldred 6

KANE, PA – The Terrors suffered their third loss of the year at the hands of the Wolves.

At 3-3, O-E next hosts Moniteau on Friday at 7 p.m.

Salamanca 12, Gowanda/Pine Valley 8

SALAMANCA, NY – After two weeks without a victory, the Warriors snapped back with a home rout of the Panthers, defending their home turf for the team’s second win of the season.

Connor Seeley and Kylan Jacobson shared the endzone honors for Salamanca, with Seeley scoring on a 68-yard carry and Jacobson coming away with a 30-yard touchdown reception from Brandon Bartoszek.
