Democratic State Senate candidate Victoria Guite of Alabama, N.Y. in Genesee County is hosting a Town Hall in Olean at 6 o’clock tonight (Thursday) at the John Ash Center on North Barry Street.
An Afro-Native Democrat living on the Tonawanda Seneca Indigenous Reservation in Genesee County, Guite is challenging incumbent Republican Sen. George Borrello of Sunset Bay in Chautauqua County, who currenytly represents the 57th Senate District.
A former Buffalo resident, Guite moved back to her grandmother’s home on the Tonawanda Seneca Reservation several years ago.
Having volunteered on various campaigns in Erie County, she decided to throw her hat in the ring when she learned no one was challenging Borrello for his State Senate seat.
On her website, https://www.victoriaforstatesenate.com/ Guite said her campaign is focused on accountability in government “especially where power has been misused to enrich the richest to the detriment of our community. I believe the housing instability, healthcare failures, and erosion of public trust are not accidental, but the result of deliberate policy choices that can and should be corrected.
“I intend to rebuild community trust, ensure that every New Yorker has the ability to live with stability and dignity, and to hold accountable those in government who fail to provide that,” she said.
