McArdle shoots 1-over for first Penn-York victory

WELLSVILLE – The 57th season of the Penn-York Junior Golf League moved to Wellsville Country Club on Monday for Week 3 with 86 golfers competing.

A smaller field than usual gave those who made the trip an opportunity to stand out.

Liam McArdle (Caledonia CC), after placing fourth and second, respectively, at Elkdale and Pennhills, continued a strong summer, earning his first Penn-York triumph with an impressive 1-over par 72 to take the boys’ Division I (16-18 years old) title. Matthew Beaver (Cardinal Hills) was second with a 76.

In Division II (14-15), Kael Riekofsky (Smethport CC) made it two wins in a row by carding an 81, edging David Preston (Caledonia CC) at 85. Division III saw Kaysen Beaver (Cardinal Hills) shoot a 40 to take the title, with Carter Crabtree (Chautauqua Golf Course) finishing second at 45.

Keegan Smith (Bavarian Hills) completed a remarkable three-peat in Division IV (11-and-under), winning his third straight with a 36. Hudson Honeck (St. Bonaventure) was second at 42.

In the Girls’ 18-hole Division I, Aubrey Resig (Bolivar CC) earned her first Penn-York win with a 133, edging Ally Sikora (Orchard Park) at 134. The nine-hole division was taken by Alaina Hirliman (Birch Run) with a 45, her third-straight weekly win.
