ST. BONAVENTURE — On June 29, it was announced that the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team would get an early test in the form of a preseason exhibition against Big 10 side, Penn State.
The Bonnies will square off against the Nittany Lions on Oct. 17 in the Key Bank Center in Buffalo as a part of the inaugural Greenlight Network Preseason Showcase.
“We’re extremely excited to return to Buffalo and KeyBank Center to host Penn State in the inaugural Greenlight Preseason Showcase,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Bob Beretta said in a release. “One strategy to build on St. Bonaventure’s strong presence in the Buffalo market is by leveraging one of our greatest marketing assets, our men’s basketball program. Hosting a preseason game in Buffalo will help strengthen our brand in that critical market and bring the excitement of Bonnies basketball directly to our dedicated alumni and fans in the area.”
The game between Bona and Penn State will be the second of the showcase, with Daemen University — former employer of new St. Bonaventure men’s basketball head coach Mike MacDonald — set to face St. John Fisher in the first game.
The all-time series record between Bona and Penn State sits at 11-10, in favor of the former. However, the two schools have not met since the Nittany Lions left the Atlantic 10 for the Big Ten Conference following the 1990-91 season.
“We are happy the Western New York fans can get a chance to see the ’26-27 Bonnies,” MacDonald said. “We are really excited to start off the season at KeyBank Center in Buffalo,”
