BATAVIA, NY — The Olean Oilers dropped both games of their doubleheader against the Batavia Muckdogs on June 21, falling 3-2 and 7-2, respectively.

In the first game of the afternoon, Olean trailed Batavia by a run after recording just three hits through the first five innings. But it would flip the script in the sixth after knocking out the Muckdogs’ starting pitcher Mason Davey, who had racked up nine strikeouts while keeping the Oilers quiet.

A Denny Martin (2-for-3, RBI) single that scored Conner Vercollone (run, two walks), and a sacrifice fly from Antonio Cordeiro (1-for-2, RBI) that scored Connor O’Mara (1-for-3, run) saw the visitors leapfrog their hosts in the penultimate frame.

Unfortunately for Olean, Batavia had some late magic of its own as it scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off.

In the second game, the Muckdogs took care of business early, scoring five times in the second inning and twice in the third. The Oilers managed to shave the deficit down by two in the fifth as Brian Fleming (2-for-3, run) scored on a single from Armanis Romero (2-for-2, run, RBI), who later scored on a fielder’s choice from Denny Martin (RBI).

ELMIRA, NY — The Olean Oilers were unable to catch up to the Elmira Pioneers after falling behind by six runs after the first four innings.

Elmira blew the game open with three runs in the second inning. It doubled down and tacked on three more in the fourth.

Olean pieced together a three-run frame of its own in the top of the fifth as Conner Vercollone (run) scored on a Thomas Bates (2-for-3, run, RBI) single. Bates and Armanis Romero (run) later scored on a single from Denny Martin (1-for-4, 2 RBI). However, that was the only offense Olean could conjure as Larsen Burch struck out seven in a full game win for the Pioneers.
