JAMESTOWN, NY — With a 4-2 win on the road, the Olean Oilers knocked the Jamestown Tarp Skunks out of the top spot in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL).
Prior to Wednesday’s league matchup between the sides, Jamestown had just two losses to its name. Olean’s victory means that it is now responsible for two of the Tarp Skunks’ three tallied losses.
In this affair, all of the damage that was required for the Oilers was done in the fourth inning as Darek Staudt (run) scored from third on a single from Cooper Tarlie (1-for-4, run, RBI) and Thomas Bates (3-for-4, run) and Tarlie scored on a Christo Hunsicker (1-for-4, run, 2 RBI) double in consecutive at-bats.
Olean would add a fourth run in the seventh, courtesy of Hunsicker who came across on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice, before a run apiece in the bottom of the seventh and eight would shave its margin of victory in half.
Also benefitting from a superb pitching display were the visitors. The Oilers got 6.0 innings out of starter Brady Berdine, who tallied six strikeouts and two walks. Jake Manendo then came in and struck out one in 1.1 frames before Mark Holm scored the last five outs of the game via strikeout.
