BATAVIA, NY — The Olean Oilers are officially off the mark in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball league (PGCBL), picking up their first-ever win in the league at the expense of the Batavia Muckdogs.

Over the course of their first two games of the new campaign, the Oilers offense has been slowly, but surely, warming up. Against the Muckdogs, it found a level of consistency that saw them put a 10-7 result in the win column.

After scoring two runs in the first inning, Olean was pegged back as Batavia shot ahead with three runs in the second. However, through the middle innings, it managed to conjure up a major response.

The Oilers scored at least a run apiece from the fourth through the eighth inning, with three coming across in the fourth and two in the sixth. The substantial lead gave them enough of a cushion to ward off a late four-run inning from the Muckdogs, who were looking to keep their blemish-free start to the season alive.

Grant Fournier led Olean at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Darek Staudt  (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Jayden Asencio (2-for-3, RBI) each had multiple hits in the win as well.

On the mound, Brady Berdine gave the Oilers a solid start, going 5.0 innings and recording two strikeouts in the process. Carrick Ryan was superb in closing out the contest, striking out four of the nine batters he faced over the final 2.2 frames.
