ST. MARYS, PA – Coming just one game away from a trip to the District 9 Class A championship, the Port Allegany baseball team’s playoff run came to an end as they fell to top-seeded Clarion.
Fresh off a marathon match in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, the Gators faced an uphill battle, taking on the No. 1 seeded and fully rested Bobcats. While their initial efforts found production, with Kellen Veilleux cracking a lead-off double and scoring two batters later, Port’s defense was unable to keep Clarion in check.
Veilleux and Aidan Bliss combined for all of Port’s four hits. Veilleux ended 2-for-2 with one run while Bliss finished his high school baseball career 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. On the mound for five frames, fellow senior Nick Wilfong threw for four strikeouts.
