ALLEGANY, NY – A late surge coupled with a dominant man on the mound gave the Olean baseball their tenth consecutive win of the season, sweeping Allegany-Limestone in the season series with a 7-1 road victory.
Despite consistently putting men on base, the Huskies struggled to find clutch hits to send them around home plate through the first five frames. However, their defense repaid the favor. With Noah Cartmill anchoring the effort from atop the hill, routinely sending Gators back to the dugout empty handed, Olean kept A-L from finding momentum, let alone baserunners.
In the sixth, the Huskies finally found headway. Setting the tone was Caine DeGolier, who opened the action with a lead-off line-drive triple to center field. Alex Jones joined him on the diamond with a single before a walk two batters later loaded the bases. From there, the next three men drove in runs, starting with a Gehrig Perry walk and followed with an Austin Miles sacrifice grounder and Tyler Sullivan RBI-single.
The Gators’ response was lackluster, scoring just one run off a Dylan Rhodes single. Olean, on the other hand, put the finishing touches on their 13th win of the season with two more runs in the top of the seventh.
DeGolier led Olean with two hits in his three appearances at the plate, scoring twice while Perry ended 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Jones finished 1-for-3 with two runs while Cartmill fanned 12 batters through seven innings on the mound.
For A-L, Isaiah Fisher ended 2-for-3 with one run while Rhodes went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Both teams look to wrap up their regular season campaign this week. Olean (13-1) begin the final stretch on Monday with a home game against Frewsburg, then completing their schedule on the road against Portville on Wednesday, while A-L have just one contest remaining ahead of them, a Monday meeting with Cuba-Rushford away from home.

Beyond that, they were ultimately blanked by the Marauders’ man on the mound, Anthony Cosme, who tallied 17 strikeouts through seven frames.
