LITTLE VALLEY — Cattaraugus County is saluting the 250th anniversary of the United States this year with a special flag.

The flag is blue with white lettering. It reads: Celebrating America 250 – Cattaraugus County. There is a depiction of the county seal inside the zero in 250.

Crystal Abers, director of the county’s Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism, displayed the flag for members of the Cattaraugus County Legislature’s Development and Agriculture Committee on Wednesday.

Each municipality will receive one of the commemorative flags to fly outside their village, town or city hall, Abers told the committee.

Legislators will be asked to deliver the flags to municipalities in their legislative districts, or town, village or city officials may pick one up at her office, Abers said.

An email is being sent out to municipalities to notify them of the special flag’s availability, she said. Municipalities can pick up the flags or arrange to have a county lawmaker deliver one to local officials.

Abers said she would be able to deliver some of the flags to supervisors attending the County Supervisor’s meeting later this month.

Abers said the flag can be flown below the American flag.

“We’re going to try to get them out by Memorial Day.
