OLEAN, NY – Punctuated with six runs in the final frame, the Olean baseball team defended their home field in the inaugural Allegany River Rivalry game, holding Salamanca to just one hit as they won 10-0 in five innings.
With Noah Cartmill on the mound and keeping the Warriors at bay, the Huskies earned some breathing room in the initial frames. While they would go scoreless in the first, Olean quickly jumped out to a lead in the third, driving in a trio of runs with an Austin Miles RBI-single, a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly from Dom Myers.
Tacking on another run via Salamanca error in the fourth, Olean would have to wait another scoreless inning before putting the finishing touches on their fourth consecutive win. Putting two men on base with a Gehrig Perry double and Joe Mest walk, Tyler Sullivan kicked off the action with an RBI-double immediately after. Back-to-back walks and two sac-flys from Alex Jones and Caine Degoliar drove in runs six through eight, before Perry stepped to the plate again to drill in a mercy-rule-enacting two-run RBI-single, sealing a win for the Red and Gold.
Perry finished a perfect 4-for-4 in the win, ending with two runs scored and two more batted in, while Myers, Ethan Woodring, Mest, Miles and Sullivan all recorded hits and combined for seven runs and three RBIs. On the bump, Cartmill came away with nine strikeouts.
For Salamanca, Nolan Seeley collected the lone hit of the afternoon, going 1-for-2.
