ST. BONAVENTURE — The St. Bonaventure baseball team did its best to rally after falling behind 4-0 to George Washington after 5.5 frames, but came up just short of forcing extra innings.
Bona dropped the contest 4-3. But in the comeback attempt, Joey Bruno scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth and Manuel Castro rocketted a home run over the left field fence which brought himself and Chris Hoalcraft across home plate.
The host’s pitching and defense locked down over the final three innings, allowing just two hits in that span. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to produce in the final frame, flying out, lining out, and losing its game-tying run which reached base on a walk on a failed attempt to steal scoring position.
GW evened the three-game series with the win and set up a rubber match finale on April 4 at 1 p.m.
