SALAMANCA, NY — In a tug-of-war affair, the Salamanca softball team ultimately emerged 11-10 victors over Gowanda.
The Panthers pounced in the top of the very first frame, bringing four runs across. The Warriors were able to find a response in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs in the inning.
As the game neared its end, Salamanca held a 10-6 advantage, but yet another four-run inning from Gowanda brought the scores back level.
With the ball in the Warriors’ court, they took advantage, walking off the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh.
Mackenzie Crouse (3 runs), Delaney Haley (2 runs), Hadleigh Krug and Mae Bacelli led Salamanca with two hits apiece.
“This was a fun game to win in the end,” Salamanca softball coach Paul Furlong said. “Neither team played great defense but both teams really swung the bat today. Kenzie Crouse is really leading the hitting, getting on base and scoring runs.”
