A mayoral contest in Allegany is the highlight of village elections in Cattaraugus County on March 18.
Democrat Dominic G. Papasergi and Republican John J. Kolkowski are running for a one-year term to succeed the late Allegany Mayor Gregory Pearl.
Papasergi, a former Allegany police chief, Public Works director and councilman, will also be running on the independent Common Sense Party, while Kolkowski, a village trustee currently as interim mayor, is also running on the independent Taxpayers First Party.
Six of the nine villages in the county will have elections. There are no elections this year in Ellicottville, Little Valley and Portville.
In the only other mayoral election, Delevan Village Trustee Patricia M. Sherwood is unopposed for a two-year term as mayor. She is running under the Common Sense Party banner for a two-year vacancy.
Also in Delevan, Steven A. Dominessy, an incumbent trustee running unopposed on the Common Sense Party line, is seeking re-election and Anthony R. Giboo is running unopposed on the Common Sense Party line for Sherwood’s trustee seat. Both are four-year terms.
In Cattaraugus, incumbent trustee Christopher Perkins and Glenn Hall are running unopposed on the Republican line for two trustee seats.
Voters in Franklinville have a chance to vote for two incumbent trustees for four-year terms. Stephen T. Pockey and Sherrill L. Sciortino are unopposed Republicans seeking re-election for four-year terms.
In Gowanda, Trustees Wanda J. Koch and Peter A. Sisti are seeking re-election to two-year terms on the Allegiance Party line.
In South Dayton, Trustees Kevin P. Butcher and Joseph P. Kortz are running unopposed for two-year terms on the Republican Party line.
Polls are open for village elections from noon to 9 p.m. on March 18.
