BRADFORD, PA – On Saturday, two seasoned North Tier League veterans returned to the hardwood and although they weren’t playing basketball, they did earn a share of the spotlight in the form of the annual North Tier League scholarships.
Every year at the North Tier League Tournament finals, which was hosted at Bradford Area High School on Saturday, the league committee sorts through submissions from the nine member schools as they look to select the two most deserving candidates. Each school may nominate one male and one female athlete, who must be in the top ten of their class, have earned a varsity letter in an NTL sport during their senior year and have a minimum of two year’s participation in any NTL sponsored sport.
This years’ winners were Manning Splain of Otto-Eldrd and Charlotte Austin-Keech of Oswayo Valley.
The scholarship, which is funded annually from the league’s members as well as the league tournament championship, totaled in $1,000 and was presented to Splain and Ausin-Keech – the latter in absentia – in between the girl’s and boy’s finals game.
