PORTVILLE, NY – Up against Randolph’s red hot sharp shooters, the Portville boy’s basketball team suffered its third loss in a row, losing 85-37 in the last home game of the season.

While the Cardinals hit just two 3-pointers in the first quarter, they erupted in the second. Knocking down five in the next eight minutes of play, including three from Syrai Johnson, Randolph quickly built up a double-digit lead, pulling ahead by 23 before halftime.

From there, the barrage of triples continued. Comfortably closing out the win through the final two quarters, Randolph ended the game with 11 more 3-pointers, bringing their total to 19 by the final buzzer.

For Portville, Aidan DeFazio hit four 3-pointers of his own, ending with a team-high 20 points. Easton Camp and Eli Truman followed with four points each while Peyton Carter and Cody Hitchcock both scored three points.

With one game left on the regular season schedule, the Panthers will close out their campaign on the road, traveling to Cuba-Rushford for a Tuesday finale.

Game Two: St. Bonaventure 11, UNC Asheville 7 (F/7)

ASHEVILLE, NC — The St. Bonaventure baseball got its season officially underway, splitting a double-header at UNC Asheville.

In game one, the Bulldogs started things off with three runs in the first inning off a throwing error from the Bonnies’ starting pitcher David James, who struck out six and walked just one batter.

The Bona offense came up empty in the first game, recording just four hits, two of which came from Antonio Cordeiro.

In the second game of the day is when the Bona bats came to life.

Tallying 13 hits, the Bonnies scored 11 runs, but none more important than the one driven in by Ashton Ross who broke a 7-7 tie in the sixth inning which scored Anthony Fernandez.

Fernandez paced the offense with three hits and four RBIs while Cordeiro, Ross, Manuel Castro and Chris Hoalcraft all had two hits apiece.

“I am proud of the way we responded after a tough game one,” Bona head coach Jason Rathbun said. “I believe in this team and know we will continue to get better as we get more games under our belts.”
