City of Olean firefighters were stretched thin late Friday morning when fire broke out in a 2 ½-story house on North Sixth Street.
The fire department was dispatched at 11:42 a.m. to a structure fire at 311 N. Sixth St. There were no reports of injuries.
“Due to multiple personnel being unavailable due to previous calls, only three firefighters responded to the fire initially,” Fire Chief Eric Maurourd reported.
“Upon arrival, units found a 2 ½-story wood frame house with heavy fire on the fire floor,” the chief said. “A 1-¾-inch hose line was stretched and an interior attack was made on the first floor and much of the fire was knocked down.”
The fire traveled up the stud chases to the attic and required multiple hose lines and master streams to bring it under control. The fire was declared under control at 13:22 p.m.
The City of Olean Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Olean Police Department, Weston Mills Fire Department, and Portville Fire Department’s air truck.
“Love Thy Neighbor assisted on scene also,” Maurourd said. “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
