Rosalyn “Rosie” Hoag, 84, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026 at home surrounded by her family.

Born March 8, 1941 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Glenn and Ethel Hopkins Reed. She was married September 3, 1960 to Robert C. Hoag, who predeceased her in 1989. She was later married December 31, 1995 to Donald Hammond, who predeceased her.

She lived in Salamanca her entire life, attending the former Ward One School for grades K-8, and graduating from Salamanca High School, Class of 1959. She graduated in 1960 from the Doyle Beauty School in Buffalo.

She had been employed in various positions with the former Smith’s Dairy Bar, Sugar Bowl, American Indian Crafts, and Seneca Construction. She owned and operated her own Beauty Shop and worked for the NY Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.

Rosie was very active in her church, the former Kissinger United Methodist Church/United Congregational Methodist Church, and currently Riverside Chapel. With the church, she sang in the choir, worked in pastor/parish relations, ran an adult bible study class, and held the Church Council Chair. She was President of the Crawford Cemetery Association, sat on the Board of the Salvation Army, was President of the Chamber of Commerce from 1990-92 and 2002-04, and was a member of the Lionettes and West End Whittlers. She was the first woman Mayor of Salamanca from 1994-98 and was always interested in the past and future of Salamanca.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and the best Nana ever!

Surviving are: a daughter, Jade (Emory Yarbour) Hoag, Salamanca, NY; two sons, Lance (Terri Remsen) Hoag, Lane (Joanne) Hoag, both of Salamanca, NY; eleven grandchildren, Jem Yarbour, Kaya Yarbour, Justin (Alichia) Hoag, Andrew (Liz) Phearsdorph, Mitchell (Sarah) Hoag, Madison Hoag, MacKenzie (Alex) Hoag-Taylor, Mikaela (Jason Crouse) Hoag, Carson Hoag, Shawn Remsen, Carmine Hoag; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Standing, Melbourne, FL; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Lowell Reed, Wendell Reed, Robert “Pete” Reed, and Keith Reed Sr., a niece, Kimberlee Riley, and a nephew, Keith Reed Jr.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Riverside Chapel, 134 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY or the Salamanca Historical Society, 125 Main Street, Salamanca, NY.
