WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Lady Owls win third straight; Pryor leads Pitt-Bradford to sweep of the Mounties

WARREN, PA – Heading out on the road for a Saturday matinee, the Bradford girl’s basketball turned an early lead into their third consecutive win as they took down Warren 37-28. 

Holding the Lady Dragons to just two points in the first quarter, Bradford jumped out to a double-digit lead through the first eight minutes with Olivia Funk leading the charge with six points. From there, the Lady Owls weathered Warren’s attempt at a comeback but managed to hold the lead, finding a 10-point lead at the end of the third that proved strong enough to hold out until the end. 

Scoring 11 of the Lady Owls’ 17 second-half points, Haley Keane led all scorers on the afternoon with 16 points, followed by Cami Sheeley with eight points.

CLARION, PA – Representing the Blue and Gold in the mid-season District 9 Showcase at PennWest Clarion University, the Lady Terrors’ star quartet kept their win streak alive as they dominated the Lady Lions. 

O-E had no trouble finding the bottom of the net, as points came in bunches through all four quarters. Ayla Van Scoter and Rayel Hakes carried the torch first, combining for 11 of the Lady Terrors’ 15 first-quarter points. While O-E held just a six-point advantage at halftime, in the third quarter, they pulled away for good thanks to Lexi Prince’s touch from the outside. Knocking down a pair of triples in the quarter, Prince helped O-E outscore C-L 16-8 as they built an insurmountable lead. 

Prince led the Lady Terrors in the scoring column with 14 – being one of four to reach double-digits points – while also coming away with five rebounds and a steal. Van Scoter came away with 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Hakes and Baylee Francis both scored 12 points. Hakes also tallied eight rebounds alongside Francis’ four rebounds and four assists.

AUSTIN, PA – Led by staunch defense that held their opponents scoreless for the first two quarters, the Gators picked up their tenth North Tier League win of the season.

Jarrod Funk came away with 22 points, six rebounds, and a steal and a block, while Julian Kaple and Isac Amell both ended with seven points.

Men’s Basketball

Pitt-Bradford 91, Mt. Aloysius 77

BRADFORD, PA – Shaking off a streaky first half, the Panthers completed their sweep of Mt. Aloysius. 

Coming off the bench and hitting four 3-pointers in the first half, Kaleb Pryor led Pitt-Bradford in scoring with 17 points, followed by Jeremy Rodriguez’s 16 points, three rebounds and a steal. Niare Poplar had 14 points, 15 rebounds while Coby Farley recorded 13 points and three rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

Mt. Aloysius at Pitt-Bradford 

BRADFORD, PA – Falling behind early and unable to recover, the Panthers suffered their 16th consecutive loss of the season. 

Amber Murak continued to lead Pitt-Bradford, recording 23 points, four steals and three assists, while Ella Gettings ended with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
