Marie Wunsch, 89, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday evening, January 13, 2026 at Olean General Hospital following a short illness.
Born October 6, 1936 in Olean, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Mary Budaj Chizewick. She was married November 20, 1954 in the Transfiguration Church, Olean, to the love of her life for the past 71 years, Robert Wunsch, who survives.
She was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1953.
Marie had been employed as a dental assistant for over 40 years, working with Dr. Dudley in Olean, Dr. Fedell in Salamanca, and Dr. S. Illig in Ellicottville.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved working outdoors on her flowers and decorating her home for different holidays. She was an avid NY Yankees and Buffalo Sabres fan.
Surviving besides her husband are: three daughters, Diane Chamberlain, Kill Buck, NY, Darlene (Ken) Guttmann, Hamilton, ON, Canada, Denise (Shawn) O’Neil, Great Valley, NY; a son, David Wunsch, NH; 2 granddaughters, Madison Wunsch, NH, Jessica O’Neil, Buffalo, NY; three grandsons, Brandon Wunsch, NH, Nathan Guttmann, Ryan Guttmann, both of Hamilton, ON, Canada; a great-granddaughter, Essox O’Neil, Buffalo, NY.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 4 – 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 274 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY on Monday at 11a.m. with Rev. Charles Johnson as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
