TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Neff’s 24 falls in vain; Portville boys outgunned by Gowanda

KANE, PA — Despite Peyton Neff’s shooting showcase and 24 points, the Smethport girl’s basketball team was unable to steal a win on the road, losing to Kane 60-43. 

Throughout the first half, Neff kept the Lady Hubbers in stride with Kane, scoring 13 of their 24 first-half points and knocking down three 3-pointers along the way. However, after falling behind by just a single point at the break, Smethport quickly fell behind in the third, being outscored 23-7 as the game became out of reach.

Alongside her 24 points and five triples, Neff recorded 13 rebounds in the win. Madey McKean ended with nine points, four assists and two steals while Cassidy Szuba scored eight points and had four rebounds.

OLEAN, NY — Nine Warriors entered the score books as Salamanca picked up their eight win of the season. 

Liana Jimerson led the Warriors with nine points while Ella Crouse came away with seven points and three steals. Charli Ross and Arabelle Reynolds both had six points, with Ross recording four steals.

Olean, who fall to 3-7, was led by Ava Finch’s nine points and Viktroiia Lozynska’s seven.

Portville 49, Gowanda 30

PORTVILLE, NY — Behind a stellar second-half effort from Ali Haynes, the Portville girls basketball team surged ahead to take down Gowanda at home.

Haynes led Portville with a game-high 19 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Of those points, 13 came in the second half and 11 came in the fourth quarter as it out-scored Gowanda 16-7 in the final frame to seal the victory.

However, Haynes was not alone on the scoring front. Quinn Scott also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with her four assists and Emily Scanlon chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

GOWANDA, NY — A slow start gave way to the Panthers’ first CCAA3 league loss of the season as they were outgunned by Gowanda. 

DeFazio led Portville’s effort, ending with 19 points while Peyton Carter scored 12 points in the loss. The Panthers now stand at 2-1 in league play and 3-6 overall.
