OLEAN — The local Voices of the People Movement plans a demonstration Saturday outside Lincoln Park to protest the killing by an ICE agent of a Minneapolis woman as she drove home after taking her 6-year-old child to school Wednesday.
Jessica Davis, who saw the video and studies criminal justice, said the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good, who’d recently moved from Colorado, did not follow police protocols. “You are not supposed to stand in front of a moving vehicle. He shot her point blank,” she said.
Davis said the ICE agent, who has been identified as Jonathan Ross, did not seek to offer aid to Good, but walked away and left the scene. “If it was justified shooting, why did he take off? This is not America.”
Others who help coordinate the group’s demonstrations agreed they should schedule a pop-up demonstration as soon as possible. That is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
People should plan to bring appropriate signs, Davis said. The demonstration in memory of Renee Good is being called the Ice Out Olean Rally.
Davis said a local rally from 2-4 p.m. on Jan. 17 in Lincoln Park will be part of a national protest for the first anniversary of President Trump’s inauguration.
