SMETHPORT, PA – In his return to his former hardwood, Jack Sherry led the Otto-Eldred boy’s basketball team to a win over Smethport, adding another double-double to his record during the 53-29 win.
The Terrors got out to a hot start thanks to Mason Rees’ pure shooting from long range. Stepping off the bus with an itchy trigger finger, Rees opened the game with a blazing four 3-pointers as O-E jumped out to a 22-4 lead through the initial eight minutes. Although Smethport answered back with a 15-point second quarter, the Terrors kept their iron grip on the game with 16 points of their own.
Stunting the Hubbers once again in the third, allowing just four points, Sherry, who played for Smethport during his freshman and sophomore years, carried O-E’s offense as he scored all six of their points in the period. Holding a 21-point advantage with one quarter remaining, the Terrors coasted to their seventh North Tier League win of the season.
Sherry finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds, also anchoring the defense with four blocks. Mason Rees ended with 15 points while Macaibe Splain, in his first-ever varsity start, recorded five points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.
For the Hubbers, who fall to 0-9 overall on the season, Mason Swanson tallied seven points and Ethan Walker and Colin Okerlund both ended with five.
