MONDAY ROUNDUP: Owls fall to Cam Co in OT; Portville boys snap losing streak with win over Cassadaga Valley

EMPORIUM, PA — Despite scoring a game-high 24 points, Marcus Terwilliger was unable to lead the Bradford boy’s basketball team to victory. Instead, the Owls opened the new year with a 67-64 overtime loss to Cameron County. 

Alongside his team-leading offense, Terwilliger also registered two rebounds, a steal and an assist while Danny Marasco came away with 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Tyler Simmons was the third Owls to reach double-digit scoring figures, tallying 10 along with four rebounds and four steals. 

Bradford remains on the road on Tuesday, traveling to play St. Marys at 7:30 p.m., before returning to the nest for a contest against Kane on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Falconer 35, Olean 30

FALCONER, NY —  In a low scoring affair, the Olean boys basketball team saw its four game win streak come to an end.

The Huskies got little scoring outside of a 15-point outing from Mykel Rivera. Adrian Bohdanowycz finished with the next highest point tally for Olean with five to his name.

Falconer was led by Max Parmentier, who finished with 13 points.

Portville 43, Cassadaga Valley 34

PORTVILLE, NY — For the first time in a month, the Portville boys basketball team put a tally in the win column.

The Panthers used a big second half, spurred on by a combined 28 points from Zach Green and Aidan DeFazio to get the result over the line. Green netted 15 points while DeFazio supported him with 13 of his own.

Mason Debo led Cassadaga Valley in the loss with 13 points.

“I was very proud of the fight in our boys tonight!,” Portville head coach Dylan Burton said. “The game was physical and tight throughout but our boys kept their heads and powered through. We got off to a slow start in the first half but I am proud of our effort in the second half. Zach Green was huge for us tonight offensively finding the middle of the zone and exposing it.”

Bradford 47, Port Allegany 38

PORT ALLEGANY, PA — Led by Cami Sheeley’s 17 points, the Lady Owls picked up their third win of the season as they downed Port for the second time this year. 

Scoring 13 of Bradford’s 27 first-half points, Sheeley kept the Lady Owls afloat as they traded punches, and leads, with the Lady Gators. Narrowing the gap to just three with one quarter remaining, Bradford’s Hayley Keane took over. Scoring seven of their 15 points in the quarter, including solid work from the free throw line, Keane pulled the Lady Owls over the finish line, tallying another win on the season. 

Alongside Sheeley, Keane ended with 15 points while Maranda Davis finished with seven. For Port, Peyton Gordon scored a team-high 15 points, followed by Brynn Evens with 12.

Otto-Eldred 36, Johnsonburg 17

JOHNSONBURG, PA — Dominating the Ramettes early, Ayla Van Scoter and the Lady Terrors added another check to the win column as they started the New Year on top. 

Van Scoter led the attack for O-E in the first, knocking down a pair of triples as the Lady Terrors jumped out to a 12-4 lead. They doubled-down on their early advantage, outscoring Jburg 19-0 in the second as five Lady Terrors made their way into the scoring column. O-E would then coast to victory as their defense held the Ramettes at bay through the final 16 minutes. 

Van Scoter ended with a game-high 13 points, while Rayel Hakes and Baylee Francis each ended with eight points. Francis also recorded three rebounds, four steals and four assists alongside Jahden Smith’s six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

JAMESTOWN, NY — The Olean girls basketball team suffered its second loss in a row on the road at Southwestern.

The Trojans had five different players finish with double figures in the win, all of whom were led by Jada Edwards’ 20 points.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

La Roche 87, Pitt-Bradford 37

BRADFORD, PA — The Panthers’ season struggles continue as they suffered their tenth loss of the season and third Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference defeat. 

Two players ended in double-digit scoring figures for Pitt-Bradford. Amber Murak led the way with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals while Ella Gettings finished with 10 points and 17 rebounds.
