WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Salamanca girl’s show out at Winter Showcase; Warriors wrestling head to Knuutila Memorial

SALAMANCA, NY – Three Warriors ended in double-digits as the Salamanca girl’s basketball team closed out their Winter Showcase with a 49-38 win over Sherman. 

Ella Crouse won the Showcase Most Valuable Player award with a team-high 15 points, six rebounds and a block. Maliyah Foster, the Showcase Standout, had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Liana Jimerson recorded 11 points, four rebounds, two steals and a pair of 3-pointers. 

Following the Holiday break, Salamanca next heads to the Joe DeCerbo Memorial Showcase, hosted at Allegany-Limestone on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors take on Otto-Eldred on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

Boy’s Indoor Track

Despite ending their last meet of the year with a tie, Salamanca closed out 2025 with eight Top Ten finishes and 10 personal records, including a new school record set by Xazavier Esobar. 

Competing in the A-C Divisional Invitational in the 55 meter dash, Escobar broke the school record with a time of 6.88, another step in his progression over the year. He also finished fifth overall in the 300 meter dash. 

Payton Bigler chipped two seconds off of his best time in the 1,000 meter run, now sitting at No. 2 in the Warriors’ Top Ten list. Evan Spruce paced seventh in the shot put and 10 in the weighted throws while Jayden Barton set a new personal best in the 600 meter.

Salamanca at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament

SANBORN, NY – On Saturday, the Warriors took six wrestlers to compete in the Linda Knuutila Memorial tournament. Each of the wrestlers gained at least one win and the team finished in 19th place out of 40 teams.

At the 285-lb. weight class sophomore Kasen Hardy, who currently is ranked second in the Western New York standings, went 4-0 with a first place finish.

Noah Longley ,132, Thomas George, 165, Conner Seeley, 175 and Jack Merrill, 190 each came up just one win short of placing in the top 8. Noah went 2-2, Thomas 1-2, Conner 2-2, Jack 1-2 and Warrick John 1-2.

The team will compete next at the Eden JV tournament on Monday, Dec. 29. The girls will compete on Saturday, Dec. 27th at the Eden Girls Varsity Tournament.
