OLEAN — The annual Genesis House “Light the Night” fundraiser culminates Sunday night with luminaria lit up in Lincoln Park to promote awareness of area homelessness.

For a $10 donation, sponsors can illuminate Lincoln Park and the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness.

Sunday is the longest and darkest night of the year. Frigid temperatures and long, dark nights are two more obstacles the homeless face.

Genesis House shelters homeless families and individuals throughout the year, but especially on cold winter nights.

Donations can be made anytime through the Genesis House website at https://www.genesishouseofolean.org/luminaria

Genesis House has set a goal of 365 luminaria, one for each day of the year. Fewer than 100 had been sold earlier this week.

The luminaria consists of weighted bags with candles to illuminate the park.

The candles will be lit during a special ceremony in the park Sunday from 6-8 p.m.

The mission of Genesis House is to provide secure temporary housing and supportive services as homeless adults and families transition to more stable housing.

For more information, contact the shelter at (716) 373-3354.
