ELMA, NY – After a back-and-forth duel, a massive Red Hawks surge in the fourth quarter sank Olean 35-14 as their three-game win streak came to an end.

Through the first two quarters, both teams squared off, breaking through the respective defenses with tick-for-tack scoring. The Red Hawks won the race to the endzone, scoring from a 37-yard pass to Jackson Kwaizer from Jusutus Kleitz. Olean responded with a three-yard rush from Domonick Hirliman but once again found themselves down a score as Iroquois opened the second with another passing touchdown from Kleitz to TJ Domino. However, Joe Mest evened the score before the break with a two-yard rush at the goalline, heading into halftime with the scoreboard knotted at 14-14.

Then, came a scoreless third. And after the calm, came the storm.

Still facing a stalemate with one quarter to go, Iroquois continuously found ways to march down field before punching holes into the endzone, ultimately scoring three times as they quickly left Olean behind. The Huskies, on the other hand, were unable to retaliate, instead dropping to 4-3 overall.

Hirliman led the Huskies in rushing yards with 51 off 14 carries and reaching the endzone once. Mest rushed for 22 yards, also completing 12 of his 24 passes for 96 yards. Mykel Rivera caught three of those for 28 yards while Tyler Sullivan caught two for 27.

Smethport 52, Otto-Eldred 6

SMETHPORT, PA – Tacking on 516 yards of total offense against their District 9 Region 4 opponents, the Hubbers found their second win of the season in dominating fashion.

Smethport amassed a mountainous lead early, scoring three times in the first quarter, all of which came from Jonah Ganoe. He first was targeted downrange for a 42-yard pass from Mason Swanson before breaking loose for a 70-yard run which put the Hubbers up 14-0. Although O-E would interrupt with a 14-yard rushing touchdown from Ryan Schenfield, Smethport quickly picked up where they left off.

Ganoe picked up his third touchdown with a six-yard gain into the endzone while Swanson scored in the second quarter, catching a 28-yard pass thrown by Aiden Tanner. Jude Kisko ran the ball for an 18-yard score in the third while Ganoe tallied his fourth and final in the fourth with a 14-yard reception. Tanner finished the night off for the Hubbers with their seventh touchdown, breaking the plane with a 31-yard run.

Ganoe ended with 164 rushing yards and 56 receiving yards, totaling four touchdowns in the win. Kisko ran for 187 yards and a touchdown while Swanson threw for 56 yards.

For O-E, Schenfield led the offense with 92 passing yards and 41 rushing yards, scoring the Terrors’ lone touchdown of the evening.

Portville 68, Springville 34

SPRINGVILLE, NY – Finding four unanswered touchdowns in the second half, the Panthers recorded their most effective offense of the season as they improved to 4-3.

Early on in their meeting with the Griffins, Portville found themselves up against gunslingers. Leaning on their air raid offense, Springville quickly built up a 20-7 lead through the first quarter, all of which came from passes into the endzone by James Rola. However, while the Griffins could dominate in the air, Portville could dominate on the ground.

After an initial receiving touchdown to open the second, Jake Ziegler took off running. Reaching the endzone on back-to-back drives, he quickly put the Panthers in front 27-20. While the Griffins would respond with two more touchdowns in the half, Portville had the momentum. Closing out the night in the third and fourth quarter, Portville tacked on 21 more points as four more Panthers reached the endzone.

Zeigler ended with 295 rushing yards, scoring four touchdowns, while Adam Roe and Kingston Loucks ran for 48 and 43 yards, respectively. At quarterback, Peyton Carter threw for 115 yards on 4-for-6 passing, targeting Demetrius Young once for a team-high 45 receiving yards.

Port Allegany 35, Union/A-C Valley 7

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Although finding themselves behind early, the Gators comeback would come hand-over-fist as they dominated the Falcon Knights for their ninth consecutive win of the season.

Union/A-C Valley accomplished a rare feat early as they not only held a first-quarter advantage over Port, but also kept the Gators scoreless as they entered the second quarter up 7-0. However, it wouldn’t take long for that to vanish.

Port quickly marched down the field to begin the second, with Aidan Bliss tallying his 102nd career touchdown off a 10-yard carry. The Gators then ended the first half with a 13-7 lead after Brennan Fillhart punched in their second score off a one-yard run. Port reached the endzone three more times throughout the final two quarters. Kellen Veilleux scored twice, first returning a punt 47 yards and into the endzone in the third before scoring another off a seven-yard rush in the fourth, while Bliss nabbed his second touchdown of the night with a seven-yard carry in the third quarter.

Bliss once again broke the 200-rushing-yard mark, tallying 224 while Veilleux tallied 55 rushing yards on eight touches. Fillhart threw 3-for-7 for five yards.

Port will end their regular season on the road, facing Brockway next Thursday, before entering the District 9 Class A bracket as the defending champions.
