ALLEGANY, NY — Another dramatic chapter was written into the storied rivalry between the Allegany-Limestone and Olean boys soccer teams as the Huskies, while coming away with the 1-0 loss, took the 11th ranked Gators into overtime with a gutsy defensive effort.

A-L had no shortage of attacking opportunities all game, spending the grand majority of the affair applying pressure on the Olean penalty area. But for as much as the hosts inundated their visitors, they were unable to reap the benefits, much in part thanks to a stellar performance in goal by Olean’s Braylon Torres.

Torres was a thorn in the side of the Gators all night, popping up time and time again with interventions at critical moments, recording 18 saves on the night. And with each minute that ticked by, and with each save that Torres made, the Huskies bench and fans grew in volume and belief that they could pull off the shock.

As A-L continued to commit bodies forward, in search of a late game-winner in regulation, it ran the risk of conceding a shock goal to Olean, which it almost did with minutes left on the clock.

Regulation was not enough to split the sides, so into overtime they went.

But even as the game dragged on, seeing their first few quality chances of the golden-goal period halted, the Gators never stopped pushing for a winner.

Something special was going to be needed to get past Torres in net. Luckily, for the Gators, that is exactly the kind of strike they got out of Cooper Wilczewski. A frozen rope from outside the penalty area just found its way beyond the fingertips of an outstretched Torres and nestled into the top right corner for the winner.

The Gators moved to 9-1 on the season with the win, while the Huskies fell to 1-9.

Kane 5, Port Allegany 2

KANE, PA — In a night that saw one of their seniors reach a career milestone, the Gators were ultimately defeated by a flurry of goals from the Wolves in the second half.

Alex Schott led Port out of the gates, netting two unanswered goals that would stand as the 49th and 50th of his career. However, after entering halftime up by a pair, Kane would storm back with two retaliatory goals in the first 12 minutes of play. They continued to ride their hot streak with three more, completing the comeback win on Senior Night.
