WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Salamanca girl’s soccer scores nine unanswered; Lady Terrors, Huskies sweep volleyball Wednesday

GOWANDA, NY – Led by Ellouise Brown’s hat trick, the Salamanca girl’s soccer team found their fifth win of the game as they overwhelmed Pine Valley/Gowanda, coming out with a 9-0 victory. 

It would take less than 13 minutes for the Warriors to break the initial stalemate. Fed by Ireland Fidurko, Addy Earley punched in the first goal of the net before Brown tallied goal No. 1 less than ten minutes later. Brown would nab her second score two minutes later, putting Salamanca up 3-0 with one half left to play.

Goals would then come in a flurry, with Arleigh Chudy, Gwyn Emborsky and Brielle Massagli all finding the back of the net in the initial 20 minutes. Brown and Chudy would both net another goal a piece in the 64rd and 69th minute before Sophia Hadara capped off the evening with a ninth goal. 

Fidurko ended with assists throughout the win while Ella Crouse, Myla Galante, Sophia Slater and Avianna Stahlman all had one. In the net, Kendra Bova Redeye came away with one save as she posted her third shutout of the season. 

With the win, Salamanca improves to 5-2 in CCAA Division II play, boasting the second seed in the standings. The Warriors will take to the pitch five more times during the regular season, three of which come as league games. Up next, they face Division I-leading Randolph on Monday at home, a game slated for a 6:30 p.m. start. 

Port United 7, St. Marys 3

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Three Lady Gators punched in a pair as Port took down the Lady Dutch. 

Kailey Bartlett, Alayna Palmer and Alyssa Pelchy all finished with two goals while Kylee Pelchy scored once. Bartlett, Palmer, Hannah Himes and Alyssa Pelchy all recorded one assist in the win as Port built up a massive lead behind Hannah Taylor’s 15 saves. 

Jamestown 4, Olean 0

JAMESTOWN, NY – Finding their seventh contest without a goal, the Huskies picked up their tenth loss of the season against their CCAA Division I opponents, the Red and Green. 

Lilah Armstrong and Audrey Hoffman split time in the goal for Olean, combining for 14 saves. 

Allegany-Limestone 2, Falconer/CV/MG 0

ALLEGANY, NY – Kennedy Honeck’s goal within three minutes, got the Allegany-Limestone girls soccer team off on the right foot in its win over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove.

Cait Conroy, off an assist from Kendall Lemon, doubled up the Gators’ lead early in the second half, solidifying the win.

Volleyball

Otto-Eldred 3, Northern Potter 0

DUKE CENTER, PA – With Rayel Hakes and Ayla Van Scoter combining for four blocks, the Lady Terrors earned another sweep at home, beating NoPo 25-14, 25-9 and 25-19. 

Hakes ended with three blocks alongside 14 kills and 10 digs while Van Scoter came away with six kills and 16 digs along with her block. Remy McDivitt ended with seven aces in the win to go with her seven digs while Emma Button finished with two aces, five digs and 25 assists. 

Gowanda 3, Salamanca 0

SALAMANCA, NY – Bested by the Panthers on their home court, the Warriors fell to 3-9 on the season, losing 25-14, 25-9 and 25-15.

Hadleigh Krug had 15 kills and Charli Hill had five. 

Cameron County 3, Smethport 0

SMETHPORT, PA – The Lady Hubbers’ struggles continued, falling to the Lady Red Raiders 25-17, 25-9 and 25-14. 

Alyssa Ayers ended with five kills and 10 digs, Taylor Edgar recorded five kills and six digs and Jenna Goodman tallied three blocks and 13 assists. 

Olean 3, Dunkirk 0

DUNKIRK, NY – The Huskies improved to 6-3 with a clean sweep of Dunkirk, winning 25-14, 25-11 and 25-16.
