Olean- Carla Elizabeth Messer, of Olean, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, after a short illness at the Olean General Hospital, with her loved ones by her side.
Carla was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on July 7, 1945, the daughter of the late Eduard and Elise Braun Wuerfl. On April 27, 1968, at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, she married James J. Messer, who predeceased her on November 10, 2010.
After graduating from Olean High School in 1963, she began her career at Community Bank, where she dedicated 45 years of service. Starting as a teller, she worked her way up to loan officer, serving all branches across New York state, knowing her by name.
Carla enjoyed bowling, needlepoint, and gardening, as well as playing card games and participating in the German Club. Some of her fondest memories were trips to Lake George with the Rounds.
Carla is survived by her son, Peter J. (Justine A.) Messer; a grandson, E. J. Messer; her sisters, Christina (Timon) Raimondi and Barbara (John) Cronin; nephews, Keith Raimondi, Mark Raimondi, Ryan Cronin, and Shane Cronin; and a niece, Jenny Tucker.
She was predeceased by her husband, James, and her parents, Eduard and Elise.
Private services will be held for Carla; burial will be in Chestnut Hill.
