JAMESTOWN, NY — Collecting its third consecutive sweep, the Portville girls volleyball team continued its undefeated start to the 2025 season with a win over Southwestern.
The Panthers, led by Ali Haynes’ 17 kills, seven digs and two blocks, cruised past the Trojans 25-8, 25-8 and 25-11 on the road. Also contributing to the sweep was Addie Walker, who had 30 assists, three kills and six digs, Gaitley Maiolo, who tallied six kills, Mia Rhinehart, who finished with 21 digs, four assists and three aces, and Leigha Stives who had five aces and six kills.
St. Marys 3, Bradford 2
ST. MARYS, PA — The Bradford girls volleyball team suffered a narrow defeat on the road, falling to St. Mary’s in five sets.
Aliya Corignani led the Owls with 32 assists, four kills and three blocks. Alongside her, Addison Carter had 12 kills, Haley Keane had 18 kills and four blocks and Emma Pilon tallied 12 kills.
BOYS SOCCER
Pioneer 7, Salamanca 1
SALAMANCA, NY — Easton Chudy’s second-half strike was the lone goal for the Salamanca boys soccer team as they fell to Pioneer 7-1.
The Warriors moved to 0-4 on the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Bradford 2, Meadville 0
MEADVILLE, PA — Behind a two-goal performance from Alyssa Mangold, the Bradford girls soccer team shutout Meadville on the road.
Cami Sheely and Karissa Chamberlain picked up an assist apiece on the Mangold goals. Maddy Stark made two saves in net for the Owls as well.
Southwestern 2, Portville 0
JAMESTOWN, NY — On the road, the Portville girls soccer team was downed by Southwestern after conceding two second-half goals.
Marlana Cresanti and Lucy Brown found the back of the net for the Trojans, with Avery Johnson and Mikaela Luce picking up the assists, respectively.
GIRLS TENNIS
Olean 3, Salamanca 0
SALAMANCA, NY — In a three-doubles format, the Salamanca girls tennis team fell to Olean, dropping their fourth consecutive match of the week.
The highlight for the Warriors came in the second doubles match as Sage Huff and Morgan Palmer battled back from dropping their first set 0-6 by taking the second set 6-0. Unfortunately for the duo, they fell in their final set 3-6.
JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
Smethport 46, Port Allegany 24
SMETHPORT, PA – Lucas Himes led the Hubbers to their second win of the season, recording a team-high three touchdowns as Smethport rolled over the Gators.
Himes made his way into the endzone in a variety of ways, rushing in for one, returning another via kick off and still delivering another by way of interception. He was joined in the endzone by Lucas Kaziska, who ran two scores in, and Sam Benson, who carried in another and converted three 2-point plays. Cole Kelly was targeted in the endzone for another 2-point conversion while on defense, Antonio Dudley and Peyton Babcock each recorded two sacks. Kayden Bennett also contributed on defense, ending with multiple tackles for loss.
For Port, Cam Nellis threw two touchdowns, one to Braden Neil and another to Canyon Carlson, while also running another score in.
