Ceres- Catherine Ellen Shelley of Ceres passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Roswell Park, with loving family by her side.

Cathy was born in Lackawanna on January 4, 1961, the daughter of Thomas Carman and Janice Skiver. On February 9, 1980, she married Merle Shelley Sr., who predeceased her on February 14, 2017.

She was a devoted homemaker who loved spending time with her family above all else. She loved crafting and was often found working on various projects that she would share with her family. Camping with her family was one of her greatest joys. Cathy is survived by her children, Merle (Becky) Shelley Jr., Edward (Mellisa Hallowell) Shelley, Kim (John Holland) Card, Tonja (Larry) Clewell, Cheryl Gross, Shawn (Megan Unverdorben) Shelley Sr., Thomas Shelley, Charles (Kyle Lunn) Shelley, Tabitha Shelley, William Shelley, Zachary Carman, and Austin Carman; 95 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Tina Burney, Dawn Peters, and Bill (Cheryl Dunmyer) Carman; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Merle Shelley Sr.; her parents, Janice Skiver and Thomas Carman; a great-granddaughter, Harper Lee Shelley; and a brother, Ryan Peters.

At this time, there are no services planned for Cathy; a memorial service will be announced for a later date. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville. Online condolences may be made at www.guentherfh.com
