CLARION, PA – Faced with their first significant challenge on the schedule, the Port Allegany football team proved their prominence, handing Central Clarion their first loss of the season with a 27-14 road victory.
Unable to break the stalemate early, the Gators were the first to get on the scoreboard, marching down the field before Aidan Bliss reached the endzone on a goalline punch. That would spark Port’s offense as they continued to put points on the board in each subsequent quarter.
Following a Wildcats score with four and a half minutes left in the first half, Bliss would strike again, reaching the endzone three minutes later off a 26-yard run. He find another big gain in the closing seconds of the third, rushing for a 28-yard touchdown with just two seconds left in the quarter. As the cherry on top, Kellen Veilleux would cross the gridiron for an 87-yard [ass, thrown by Bliss, in the fourth as Port improved to 3-0.
Bliss finished with 201 yards on 28 carries, scoring three times while Veilleux tallied 117 yards on eight attempts, reaching the endzone once. Through the air, quarterback Brennan Fillhart completed five of his seven passes for 39 passing yards.
Punxsutawney 56, Bradford 13
PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA – After earning a win in Week 2, the Owls took to the road for an uphill battle against Punxsutawney, one that proved too much to handle.
Reaching the endzone for Bradford was Logan Kohler and Lucas Wallace.
Up next, the Owls stay on the road for another tough match up against DuBois next Friday.
Otto-Eldred 48, Coudersport 22
DUKE CENTER, PA – Taking the reins by force, Shane Magee led the Terrors to their first win of the season, dominating both in the air and on the ground as they dominated the Falcons.
Magee did most of his damage with his arm, completing all but one of his 17 passes as he poured in 202 passing yards and four touchdowns. His main man downfield on the night was Wyatt Blendinger, who caught six passes for 121 yards and two scores. Dawson Welch was successfully targeted three times in the endzone as a part of his 84 yard night.
When bursting out of the pocket, Magee found an equal amount of highlight plays, rushing six times for 140 yards and adding another touchdown to his resume. Ryan Schenfield scored once on the ground, carrying the ball five times for 50 yards.
Portville 49, Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale 8
PORTVILLE, NY – The Panthers’ massive second quarter led to a steamrolling season-opening victory over the Gators.
In his first game at quarterback, Aidan DeFazio broke onto the scoreboard with a 28-yard pass into the endzone to Jake Ziegler. From there, there was no looking back for Portville, who would score five unanswered touchdowns, including four in the second quarter alone.
Heading into the fourth, A-L would break the shutout late with an 18-yard run from Mat Burnett who would make it to the endzone immediately after for a successful 2-point conversion.
DeFazio recorded two touchdowns through the air, connecting on seven of his 12 passes for 125 yards while also carrying the ball into the endzone twice as a part of his 29-yard ground attack. Adam Roe led Portville in rushing yards with 83 on 12 carries while Ziegler finished close behind with 75 rushing yards on five carries, each scoring twice. Kingston Loucks caught three passes for a team-high 50 receiving yards and one touchdown.
