TORONTO, ON — The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team has officially announced that it will head into Canada on Oct. 5 to host a public practice and Q&A at Toronto’s Humber College.
According to a press release, the practice has the intended goal of “bolstering the Bonnies’ rich history of recruiting and engagement in Canada.”
A number of players on the current St. Bonaventure roster hail from Canada, including center Frank Mitchell, who began his collegiate basketball career at Humber College in 2021-22. In his lone season there, he averaged 14.5 points and 18.0 rebounds over eight games, setting the Hawks’ single-game record with 31 rebounds against Redeemer.
Brayden Jackson, a native of Milton, Ontario, and John Ikpotokin, originally from Rothesay, New Brunswick, are the other two Canadians set to take to the Reilly Center floor this upcoming winter.
According to the release, St. Bonaventure men’s basketball General Manager Adrian Wojnarowski will moderate a Q&A session with Bonnies’ head coach Mark Schmidt and Humber head coach Omar Miles after the practice. A two-time CCAA National Champion and three-time OCAA Coach of the Year, Mile has led the Hawks to a 72-17 (.809) record over his five seasons at Humber.
“We are thrilled to bring St. Bonaventure basketball to Humber College and Toronto for a public practice and event,” Wojnarowski said in the release. “It is a fitting homecoming for alumnus Frank Mitchell and Milton-native Brayden Jackson and a chance for the grassroots basketball community in the 416 to watch and interact with our team up close! High-level Atlantic 10 Conference basketball is nearby at St. Bonaventure, and this is yet another way we are prioritizing our partnership with Toronto and Canadian basketball.”
Schmidt echoed his GM’s excitement for the event.
“We are so excited to partner with Humber College to showcase our team to players and coaches in the Toronto community,” Schmidt said. “We have a long history of recruiting incredible players from the Toronto area and look forward to continuing that relationship by finding the next wave of Bonnies from Canada.”
The event will take place at the Humber Athletic Centre in Toronto.
