LOCK HAVEN, PA – Taking to Lock Haven University for the annual Bear Mountain River Run, Kaden Tessena once again led the Bradford boy’s track and field team as they finished seventh with 186 points.
Despite coming out of the gates a little too fast and paying the price for it soon after, Tessena regained composure and finished 24th overall with a personal best time of 17:49.9 on the 3.1 mile course.
“Every race is a learning experience and going out too fast is a lesson that when not learned will continue to be taught,” said Bradford head coach Tom Tessena. “He is anxious to run again on Tuesday to apply what he learned (on Saturday.)”
Fellow junior Evan Troisi improved his time from Bradford’s first meet by 40 seconds, earning 47th overall at 18:59.9 while sophomore Jordan Hogue took 49th at 19:04 for his fastest race of the season. Xavier Frontino placed 50th with a time of 19:04.2, a personal best, while his brother Nikolai Frontino came in 58th at 19:26.5.
Another career best was had by senior Tony McDonald, who ran the course with a time of 19:39.9 for 60th place. Junior Cavan Drake also posed a personal best at 20:08 for 73rd in the field of 126 runners.
Hughesville won the day in first place with 27 points while two of the Owls’ District 9 opponents, Brookville and St. Marys, finished second and fifth, respectively.
“District 9 will be hotly contested this year so we have lots of work to do,” said Tom Tessena. “We host DuBois and Brockway on Tuesday at our (George G. Blaisdell Elementary) course. This race will start later than usual at 5:15 with the Middle School race followed by the Varsity race.”
In the middle school heat, Charlie Vinelli set a new school record, leading from start to finish on the two-mile course as he claimed first with a time of 10:59.9. Despite missing out on a medal, Gavin Weart had a personal best at 13:08 while seventh grader Breyden Sipko ended in 38th at 14:07.5, a personal best as well.
Seventh grader Kaiden Christjohn was 53rd (15:213.7), Jacob Warfield finished 61st (17:14.9) and Lucas Corwin placed 62nd overall (17:25.5).
