July1, 1956 – August 27, 2025
Obi- Richard A. Parry passed away at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cuba on July 1, 1956, he was the son of the late Laddie and Marjorie Childs Parry. On June 22, 1985, at the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, he married the former Wendy Austin, who survives.
Rick graduated from Portville High School in 1975, then received an associate’s degree from OBI. He joined the United States Air Force and proudly served from 1980 to 1984. He worked for 30 years at Dresser Rand in Wellsville. He was a die-hard Cleveland Indians fan, often traveling to Cleveland several times each summer to catch a game. He was also a Buffalo Bills fan, catching all the games.
Rick enjoyed classic rock, and his favorite band was the Moody Blues, especially their song “Tuesday Afternoon”. He took extremely good care of his 1966 red Mustang, proudly showing it at numerous car shows where it won awards. He truly loved that car. To him, his dogs weren’t just pets-they were family, his babies.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Wendy; a brother, Christopher Dale (Kay Zameroski) Parry; his cherished in-laws, Bob (Sherry) Austin, Alice (Harold) Worthington, Joe Austin, Alan Austin, Kirk (Peggy) Austin, and Paul (Laurie) Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Laddie and Marjorie; his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Elva Austin; a sister, Kathleen Currier and her husband, Larry; two sister-in-laws, Trudy Capitani and Donna Parry; and beloved pets, Maggie, Mollie, and Maxwell.
Family will receive friends at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 51 S. Main Street, Portville, on Friday (August 29, 2025) from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11 am, with burial to follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, with full military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion.
