WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Salamanca girls tennis, soccer split season openers; Port boys starting skid continues

FREWSBURG, NY – The Salamanca girls tennis team dropped their home opener, losing to the co-op of Frewsburg and Southwestern, 4-1.

In the first singles, senior Emelia Prey fell in straight sets while junior Betsy Leyva claimed her first career singles win in the second singles in a match that came down to a tiebreaker. Although the first and second doubles were forfeited, the Warriors played in several exhibition matches that included Sage Hugg, who won her first set. 

Salamanca opens league play at home on Tuesday, Sept. 2 playing against Dunkirk. That match is set to begin at 4 p.m.

EDEN, NY – Kicking off their 2025 campaign with a nail bitter, the Warriors lost their first taste of action in double-overtime drama.

Arleigh Chudy scored Salamanca’s lone goal of the game while Kendra Bova-Redeye ended with five saves while tending goal.

Ridgway 8, Port Allegany 1

RIDGWAY, PA – The Gators fell to 0-4 with a loss to the Elkers on the road. 

Port’s lone goal of the game came from Alex Schott while Kaiden Bartlett and Aidan Stuckey split time in the net, coming away with four combined saves.
