TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Salamanca baseball closes out season with QF loss to Fredonia; Salamanca track and field grab podium spots at CCAA Championships

FREDONIA — The No. 12 seed Salamanca baseball team has reached the end of the road, rounding out its season with a five-inning, 10-0 loss to No. 4 seed Fredonia in the Section 6 Class B Quarterfinals.

The Warriors trailed by just one run through three innings, but was unable to get their offense going before the Hillbillies piled onto their total, adding two runs in the fourth and seven more in the fifth to force the run-rule.

Cory Holleran and Conner Seeley were the only two Salamanca players that managed to record a hit against Fredonia.

UNIFIED BASKETBALL

Salamanca 41, Dunkirk 38

DUNKIRK — The Salamanca unified basketball team secured a narrow victory over Dunkirk with Kaine Whitcomb’s nine-point performance leading the way.

Logan Abrams and John Holmes-Pierce provided eight points apiece for the Warriors as well. Gordon Sullivan (six points), Ashton Smith (four points), Jacob Abrams (two points), David Dunn (two points) and Michael Light (two points) each found their way onto the scoresheet as well.

MAY 23 & MAY 24

TRACK AND FIELD

FALCONER — On May 23 and 24th, the Salamanca track and field teams participated in the CCAA Track & Field Championships with the boys team finishing third in Div. II.

The highlight for the boys team was the 3,200m relay team of Mason Brewer Knox Johnson, Payton Bigler and Aiden George who were division champs, finishing fourth overall and recording a sectional qualifying time. 

The 400m relay of Dakota Colts, Perry Winship, Remy Follman and Kyle Lecceardone also placed second in their division, fifth overall.

Individually, Lecceardone recorded a PR in the 100m, earning third in his division and seventh overall. He also finished third in the 200m, fifth overall. 

Easton Chudy finished just four inches off his PR in the pole vault (9-06) and placed third in his division, eighth overall.

As for the girls team, it finished just 18 points shy of Allegany-Limestone for the Div. II title and was also led by a good performance in the relays with the 400m relay team of Rhiannin Chase, Summer Downey, Leilene McComber and Jamila Nelthrope finishing second overall.

The 3,200m relay team of Summer Downey, Gabriella Bly, Kaylin Lemon and Ryanna Brady and the 1,600m relay squad of Kyla Dry, Lemon, Leilene McComber, and Daisy Lichy each finished in second as well.

Individually, Brady won the 800m (2:33.30) and the 3,000m (11:06.26), both good for PRs. She finished as the overall winner in the 3,000m as well.

Izabella Milks was also a double winner, taking first in the high jump (4-08) and triple jump (31-10). Nelthrope added a crown in the 200m with a PR time of :26.61 and finished second in the 100m.

Bly placed second in the steeplechase, McComber finished second in the 400m, Downey grabbed second in the 400m hurdles and Aubrey Domres took third in discus as well.
