ALLEGANY — The Olean Farmers market held its final winter farmers market of the season, hosted by Canticle Farm, at its market building at 3809 Old State Road on Saturday.

This coming Saturday, May 10, will mark the opening of the 2025 Olean Farmers Market at Lincoln Park, said Stephanie Beneng, Canticle Farm grower. The farmers market will have new hours this year, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“It’s been well received,” said Beneng. “We’re happy with the response from the public.” The Canticle Farm Board will decide whether to open the North Farm building again next winter to host the Olean Farmers Market

The indoor farmers market was a welcome opportunity by vendors and the public, Benneg said. Next Saturday, vendors will be set up at Lincoln Park.

Canticle Farm’s booth, located just inside the door of the market building on the North Farm on Old State Road, had fresh greens including spinach, kale, beet greens and beets. There were also potatoes that have been properly stored since being harvested.

Canticle work crews are currently planting crops in the high tunnels on the South Nine Mile Road.

Besides its Community Supported Agriculture, where people buy shares of the produce grown by Canticle Farms and donations to the Olean Food Pantry and the Warming House dining site in Olean, Canticle Farms is starting a Community Garden this year. The cost will vary from $20 to $60 to rent a garden bed to grow crops to feed family and friends.

Other vendors included Living Acres Farm and Living Cultural Farm from Alfred Station with a variety of produce grown in high tunnels and mushrooms, and Brookside Maple Farm of Centerville, which had a variety of maple and other products for sale.

Also, Country Honey, Winey Shepherds honey wine, Mindfully Holistic tea and coffee blends, West Hollow Bakery and Farm and Alterity Regenerative Ranching chicken.
