March 29, 1931 – April 12, 2025
Ellicottville – Carmela F. Tomczak, 94, of Ellicottville, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Heritage Green Nursing Home in Jamestown. She was born on March 29, 1931 in Buffalo, daughter of the late Philip and Grace (Lazzaro) Tabbi. On October 20, 1951 she married the late Alexander “Jim” Tomczak, who predeceased her on September 20, 2007.
For many years, Carmela was a realtor for Holiday Valley Real Estate, and was active in the Ellicottville community. She was a member of the Holy Name of Mary RC Church, the Ellicottville American Legion, and was an active volunteer with the Ellicottville Memorial Library, as reading was one of her passions. She enjoyed being busy whether it was in the home, loving to cook and crochet, or out and about playing Bingo, or bowling for many years in leagues in Salamanca. Of all things that brought her joy, Carmela was most happy when she was with family; she’ll be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by five sons; James (Nancy) Tomczak of Rome, NY, David (Patti) Tomczak of Arizona, Philip Tomczak of Orchard Park, Kenneth (Angela) Tomczak of Ellicottville, and Michael (Lisa) Tomczak of Jamestown. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Philip, Abraham, Grace, Gregory, May, Olivia (Ciaci), Kelsea, Maverick, and Mason, as well as four great-grandchildren; Leah, Charles, Jack, and Frankie, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Carmela is predeceased by two brothers, Salvatore Tabbi and Philip Tabbi, and a sister, Rosalie Pannullo.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11 am from the Holy Name of Mary RC Church.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ellicottville Memorial Library.
