Mayor Bill Aiello will face a Republican primary in June from businesswoman Amy Sherburne, who is also running on the Democratic line.

If the mayor, seeking a fourth four-year term, is successful in the June 22 GOP primary, the two will meet again in November. If Sherburne is successful in the primary she would be unopposed in the fall election.

The Cattaraugus County Board of Elections posted a list on Tuesday of candidates who had filed nominating petitions last week.

Three of the four Olean aldermen whose terms expire this year are seeking re-election.

Alderman Sonya McCall, D-Ward 4, who is on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines, will face challenger Alan Peters who is on the Republican and Conservative lines.

Ward 6 Alderman Vernon Robinson Jr., is unopposed in his re-election bid. He is listed on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines.

David Anastasia, D-Ward 7, is also seeking re-election on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines

Only Ward 2 Alderman Jason Panus is not seeking re-election. Seeking the open Ward 2 seat are Democrat Rychelle Weseman and Joseph Keary, who is on the Republican and Conservative lines.

There are two countywide candidates on the ballot. Ashley E. Smith is unopposed for the district attorney’s office on the Republican and Conservative lines. She is the current county attorney. Coroner Kevin M. O’Rourke is unopposed for re-election on the Republican line.

Also, in the City of Salamanca, City Judge Matthew Swenson is running for re-election unopposed on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines.

There is a three-way Republican primary race for supervisor in the town of Dayton. It pits incumbent Aaron Huber against Crystal Abers, the county director of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism, and Thomas Chupa, who is also listed as the Conservative Party candidate.

Mayor Bill Aiello will square off with Olean businesswoman Amy Sherburne in a Republican primary for mayor in June. Sherburne’s name will appear on the Democratic line in November.
