Beverly I. Peterson passed away Monday (April 7, 2025) at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born September 19, 1936 in Olean to Geneva C. Peterson & Carl Harris. On June 29, 1957 in Olean, she married James E. Peterson who predeceased her June 1, 2021.

Beverly worked for several years at the Olean Times Herald. While there, she received the esteemed Gil Stinger award for being an outstanding employee. Her family was her pride and joy, and she babysat many grandchildren through the years. She loved to play bingo & play the slots at the casino and go to garage sales. She also enjoyed listening to Danny O’Donnell, as well as polka music. Everyone loved her chocolate chip cookies, and her cookie jar was always full for whoever visited her home. Many will remember her for her spaghetti and meatballs for Sunday dinners.

She is survived by her loving children, Timothy (Nina) Peterson of Allegany, William (Sandra) Peterson of Olean, Deborah (Jeffrey) Rhinehart of Eldred PA, and Douglas (Jody)Peterson of Olean; her grandchildren, Colette (Dennis) Harrison, Bradley Peterson, Adam (Mary) Peterson, Marcie (Eli) Rust, Morgan (Jeffrey Baker) Rhinehart, Allyson Rhinehart, Jordan (Charlie) Guzior, Jack & Michael Peterson, Rachel Smith, and John Belleville; grandson-in-law Rick Neubauer; her great-grandchildren, Lina & Emily Neubauer, Rayce (Damien) Peterson, Blaze (Rylee) Harrison, Harley (Tyler) Harrison & Dennis (Breawna) Harrison III, Kyleigh (Zack) Peterson & Leigha Peterson, Cheyenne, Abigail & Theron Rust, and Evelyn Rituno; her great-great grandchildren, Zye, Vayda, and Willow, and 3 great-great grandchildren on the way.

Beverly also leaves behind a loving sister, Peggie (Myron) Pines of Garden Grove, CA; several nieces and nephews; special neighbors, Roger & Jenny Johnson and John Gordon, and her “family” at Olean Class Cars. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased 1 month infant daughter Tina Marie, infant twins at birth Matthew Andrew and Mark Anthony, her brother, Milton “Sonny” Peterson, daughter-in-law, Terri Sherburne Peterson in 1991, granddaughter, Lynn Neubauer in 2020, and Lynn’s infant son Ricky Neubauer.

She was also predeceased by her in-laws, Bertha and Carl Peterson, and her best friend, Carol Johnson. She missed her special dog kids Barney & Rambo.

The family invites friends to a visitation only gathering on Saturday (April 12, 2025) from 1-4pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Golisano Children’s Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642, the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 1644 Olean-Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
