SALAMANCA — The Salamanca baseball team, playing the second game of a season-opening weekend with back-to-back games, showed no signs of fatigue and rolled past Ellicottville to move to 2-0 on the season.
Leading the Warriors to their eventual 15-6 victory were those at the top of the lineup. Leadoff batter Jacob Herrick and his successor at the plate, Cory Holleran, both went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Herrick recorded four RBI with Holleran bringing in two runners as well.
Salamanca’s Zach Trietley, Kruz Coustenis and Conner Seeley each also connected for a hit.
On the mound, Herrick, Trietley and Calum Farnum combined for a four-hit game, striking out a combined 12 batters. Trietley threw the most innings (3.0) out of the trio and proved to be the toughest challenge for Ellicottville, not giving up a hit or run while striking out four batters.
Ryan Norton was the most successful player for the Eagles on the day, recording a hit, run and three RBI.
Next up for Salamanca is a game against JFK at home on March 31 at 5 p.m.
