Timothy J. Light, 66, of Great Valley, NY died Friday morning, March 28, 2025 at home following a long illness.
Born February 19, 1959 in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late Jack and Jacqueline Brundage Light.
He attended Salamanca High School and was a graduate of Ellicottville High School, Class of 1977.
Tim was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving with the Seabees from 1978 – 1982 and was originally stationed out of Louisianna and later in California where he traveled throughout the world. Upon his discharge, he served in the US Naval Reserves from 1982 – 1987.
He had been employed with the NYS Department of Transportation for over 15 years, retiring in 2022. He had previously been employed with the Cattaraugus County DPW, Little Valley, NY and the former Blackstone Manufacturing, Jamestown, NY.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the outdoors and farming on his property, and fishing. He will be remembered for his welding skills, especially on derby cars for the Cattaraugus County Fair, as well as helping at various area events and many Great Valley Rigattas. He was a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535, Salamanca, NY and a former member of the Kill Buck Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving are: a daughter, Rachael (Clarence) White Bickell, Great Valley, NY; a son, Christopher Light, Jamestown, NY; a sister, Penny Chase, Great Valley, NY; a brother, Fred Light, Salamanca, NY; his longtime companion, Betsy Livingston, Allegany, NY; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Richard Chase.
There will be no visitation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.
Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
