ST. BONAVENTURE — As noted in New York State Police reports from March 15, St. Bonaventure men’s basketball guard Duane Thompson was involved in a one-vehicle accident and charged with operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher, an unclassified misdemeanor.

The accident, which occurred on Clare Road on St. Bonaventure’s campus, left one injured. Thompson was eventually released with an appearance ticket.

No official statement has been made by the university or the men’s basketball team specifically, but the news comes only a couple days after the Bonnies bowed out of the Atlantic 10 men’s basketball conference tournament in Washington, D.C.. In light of missing out on their shot at an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, coach Mark Schmidt told media members after his team’s 76-59 loss to VCU on March 14 that “the NIT is something that we’d be excited to play in.”

An official decision has yet to be announced as to whether or not the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team, which has seen the number of healthy players on its roster drop significantly as of late, will still accept an invitation if one is extended by the NIT.

Duane Thompson is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
