Dana Lee Witherell, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather
Olean- Dana Lee Witherell of Witherell Drive Olean, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Olean, on March 13, 1949, the son of the late Richard and Dorothy Kayes Witherell. On October 27, 1984, at the First Baptist Church, Olean, he married the former Rosalie “Bunni” Boser, who predeceased him on April 9, 2015.
Dana was a 1968 Portville Central School graduate. After graduating he began working for Cooper Power Systems from which he retired at 49 years old. He was also a member of the Army National Guard, proudly serving his country. He was an avid sportsman, who loved boating, water skiing, hunting, and traveling. Dana and Bunni traveled throughout the United States and Europe. He loved to go camping in the Adirondacks and a good game of horseshoes.
He is survived by his children, Eric M. Witherell of Pensacola FL., Kellie D. Smith of Olean, Matthew R. (Kelly) Mason of Honolulu HI, Leah (Matthew) Scanlon of, MD., and Kyle D. (Jess) Witherell of Leesburg VA; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dave (Ann) Witherell; 1 sister Darla (Mark) Freaney.
Dana was predeceased by his wife, Bunni; his parents, Richard and Dorothy; and 1 grandson Austin.
Family will receive family and friends on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St. Olean, with a funeral service starting at 4 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Anthony Evans officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorials if desired may be made to Westons Mills Fire Dept., Homecare and Hospice, or Roswell Cancer Institute.
