HOUGHTON, NY – Saturday, February 15th marked the start of the February week long break. While some students were beginning their vacation, many of the Salamanca athletes made their way to Houghton University to wrap up their Indoor Track and Field season.
On the boys team, the Warriors had 14 individual entries. Ten of those would be personal best performances while 10 changes were made to the schools top ten list, two of which were new school records including a sectional qualification. Evan Spruce had a breakthrough in the weighted throw today, improving over five feet for a throw of 40-07. This broke the school record, previously held by Owen Pierce and was a Sectional qualification. Spruce has qualified in both shot and weighted throw for sectionals and has two weeks to continue this fine tuning of his skills in hopes of finishing the season with his best.
Jackson Oram continued to improve in both long and triple jump. His PRs today were 18-06 and 35-09.25, respectively. Preston Smith also had two individual PRs, breaking his 3,200m school record once again (11:38.96) and knocking 12 seconds off his 1,600m (5:32.77). Freshman Jayden Romero sprinted his best time of the season in the 55m (7.77) while freshmen George and Denver Parsons both finished their season with best times in the 1,000m with 3:24.91 and 3:27.36, respectively.
Payton Bigler ran the 600m for the first time this season, beating last year’s time by 18 seconds. Although not their best performance, Dakota Colts, Denver Parsons, Preston Smith and Bigler ran the 3200 meter relay. Finishing the meet was the 4 x 200m relay of Jayden Romero, Oram, Remy Follman and Dakota Colts. They ran the second fastest time of their season.
