Monday Roundup: Lady Huskies top Dunkirk; O-E girls enter postseason on a high note

DUNKIRK, NY – Playing their final road game of the regular season, the Olean girls’ basketball team was able to take down Dunkirk with a big push in the third quarter, beating the Lady Marauders 43-28.

Through two quarters, neither team could gain any advantage on the scoreboard, going into the break with the game tied at 15. However, led by Anna Bates’ 12 points, the Lady Huskies pulled away in the third, outscoring Dunkirk by 15. From there, Olean cruised to their fourth win of the season. 

Bates ended with a game-high 18 points, also recording a double-double with 10 rebounds throughout the win. Alaina Hirliman and Jourdin Battle both scored nine points while Viktoriia Lazyska ended with four. 

Olean has just one game left on the schedule. On Wednesday, the Lady Huskies will host Wellsville, a game that was originally slated for Tuesday, Jan. 21. In their only other meeting this season, Olean fell to Wellsville 43-14.

Portville 41, Falconer 32

FALCONER, NY – Combining for 26 points, Ali Haynes and Emma Rhinehart led the Lady Panthers their ninth win of the season. 

Fresh off a double-double 20-and-10 game against Frewsburg, Haynes repeated the feat with 15 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Panthers in both categories. Rhinart scored 11 while dishing out five assists alongside Ava Jo Edwards’ four assists and five points.

Bradford 49, Smethport 25

BRADFORD, PA – Playing in front of their home crowd for the last time in the regular season, the Lady Owls earned their second win in a row, beating Smethport with staunch defense.

After going into the second quarter tied at 11, Bradford would allow just 14 more to be scored on them for the remainder of the game. In the meantime, Bradford scored by committee, with nine Lady Owls making their way into the scoring column. 

Shavia Long led the way with 11 points while Mackenzie Taylor scored 10. Hayley Keane followed closely behind with eight.

Otto-Eldred 51, Coudersport 31

COUDERSPORT, PA – Three Lady Terrors scored double-digit points as they took down Coudersport with a second-half surge. 

Through two quarters, Coudy carved out a one-point lead. However, starting in the third quarter, O-E would score by committee as they embarked on a 22-7 run that would put them in front. From there, the Lady Terrors coasted to another North Tier League victory. 

Addie Bell, Ayla Van Scoter and Baylee Francis all scored 11 points in the win while Rayel Hakes tallied seven points. 

On Wednesday, the Lady Terrors will enter the NTL playoffs as the No. 2 seed, setting up a third meeting between the only team to have beaten O-E twice this season: Oswayo Valley. That game will take place in the Terror Dome at 7 p.m.
