SMETHPORT, PA – Weathering a second-half surge from the Lady Hubbers, the Otto-Eldred girls’ basketball was able to hold on to the lead, beating Smethport once again, 58-38.

Through the first two quarters, the Lady Terrors controlled the entirety of the contest, entering the halftime break up by 20. However, coming into the third quarter, Smethport’s Payton Neff came alive from beyond the arc. Scoring all of her team’s third-quarter points, Neff cashed in on six 3-pointers. Despite her efficiency from long range, her efforts failed to move the needle as O-E continued to put points on the scoreboard. Neff would eventually cool off, scoring just five points in the fourth as the Lady Terrors cruised to their 17th victory.

While Neff would lead the game in scoring with 26, Carrie Drummond would carry the torch for the Lady Terrors, finishing with 17 points and three rebounds. Rayel Hakes ended with a double-double, tallying 12 points and 14 rebounds while Lexi Prince recorded 12 points and five rebounds.

Up next, O-E returns home for a meeting with Oswayo Valley, a night that will also honor the Lady Terrors’ seniors.

OLEAN, NY – Along with a night to celebrate their seniors, the Huskies were also able to celebrate coming out with nail-biting win over Franklinville.

Cam Driscoll, Jack Aderman, Jon Tidd, Blake Kinnaird, and Caine DeGoiler all recorded pins in their respective weights. However, the clincher was the 190-pound bout where junior Mike Ellman scored a third period takedown and near fall to beat Franklinville’s Christian Sexton, 11-6.

Prior to the match some Olean youth wrestlers took on Franklinville youth. The kids got some matches in, ate some pizza and got to interact with the varsity teams. The Olean youth got to send out the Huskies for their matches and Taeton Magara was asked to be honorary varsity captain for the day and went onto the mat with captains for coin flip. He also sat on the bench with varsity during the match.

It was exciting watching the interaction between the youth and varsity. I’ve been trying to promote more activities like this for the past several years,” said Olean head coach Jeffrey Gabler. “I would like to thank youth coaches Josh Anderson and Lance Zerniak for making this possible as well as board members Todd Perkos and Olivia carls.”
