Pioneer 37, Salamanca 28
YORKSHIRE — Hampered by an inconsistent offensive output, the Salamanca girls basketball team suffered a loss on the road to Pioneer on Jan. 25.
The Warriors scored just four points in the second quarter and three in the fourth, a contrast to the double-figure points they put up in the first and third frames.
What didn’t help their cause was a 14-point performance courtesy of the Panthers’ Jayden Leederman.
Bailei Hopkins added nine points to the hosts’ total and Celsy Colombo, who, Salamanca coach Joe Hinman noted, the Warriors aimed to slow down, scored seven points.
Leilene McComber scored the team-high in points for Salamanca with nine. Makenzie Crouse contributed seven points as well.
“I thought we executed our defensive game plan of trying to shut down Colombo,” Hinman said. “She’s a tough player and draws a lot of attention. They just hit more shots than us on the offensive end. In the end, we will take this as a solid effort and learn from it moving forward.”
